The fall 2015 Playmaking Ensemble is excited to present the public showcase of Tower of Babble, a roller-coaster ride on one man's train of thought. This is the show they’ve been developing over the last month and a half under the direction of instructor, guest director, and long-time YTG collaborator Tania Coke,
Seating space is limited in the studio, so please use the form at the bottom of this post to let us know you’re coming. Also, please arrive by 17:15. The show is quite short and will begin at 17:30. Afterwards, there will be a short Q&A.
After the show, the Ensemble will adjourn to a restaurant in Kawasaki for a celebration. Two different courses (alcohol & non-alcohol) will be available. Please note on the form if you plan to attend and which course you’d like to take.

Tania Coke, veteran performer and theatre creator (“Are You...?”, “Coffee and I”, “吼 kon”,”The Other Show”, “a people apart ‘B’”, and more) takes students on a journey of inspiration. Starting with nothing but the desire to create, you’ll explore everything that goes into making a compelling piece of theatre. The final product will be a fully-realized workshop show, performed in front of an audience.
Whether you’re considering your first class in theatre, or whether you’re a performance veteran, this class will expand your skillset and your artist’s soul.

Students will work with Japan-based playwright Andrew Woolner to learn methods of creating plays in rehearsal.
The first day will start with some acting and team-building exercises to get everyone ready before delving into choosing a theme together. The rest of the day will be spent exploring that theme using words, sounds, and movement.
Day two will begin with reviewing the content made on day one and choosing a direction for the project. Content will be developed into scenes, which will then be expanded into a short play that the group will perform for an audience in the evening.

About the Instructor
Andrew Woolner is a Japan-based playwright and theatre maker who specializes in new play development. Recent works include his one-man show 39, which toured Canada in 2010, and Kikai-ga-shima, which appeared this past summer in the Taipei Fringe Festival. He's currently working on a new show, By the Hour, which will premiere in February at the TPAM festival in Japan. Other collaborative shows Andrew has worked on include: The House Show II: Haunted, a people apart 'A', and Earthawake.
Andrew is also the artistic director of the Yokohama Theatre Group, which specializes in original pieces of theatre created collaboratively in rehearsal and is constantly working on and developing new ways to make theatre.
