All of our activites are documented through the various links on this website, but for those of you stumbling across us for the first time, we thought we'd post a little summary of all the things that we do, to save you some time. For those of you who have been following us for years, there may be some things you've missed along the way, so this is a chance to review.
The Yokohama Theatre Group is a registered Non-Profit organizaton in Japan. It has existed since 1900. Over the last few years, we've been making the transition from a club to a full-fledged Theatre ensemble and school.
Throughout our long history, the group mostly put on scripted works by established playwrights. We still do that to some extent, but we're concentrating mostly on original and mostly bilingual works created by ensemble members, as well as extreme re-workings and re-writings of classical pieces.
We perform these works mostly in Yokohama, and occasionally in Tokyo.
Every few years we plan to take a show on an international tour.
Every fall, we host the Yokohama leg of Cambridge University's Japan Shakespeare Tour.
Every 4-6 months we plan to put on showcases to, er, showcase recent things we've been working on in rehearsals.
We run actor training classes on weeknights and weekends, in Tokyo and Yokohama. We also occasionally run one to two day actor training sessions in other cities. If you are interested in having us come to your city to do a weekend of classes, please ::CONTACT US::.
Our instructors are also available for private coaching for students who have big auditions coming up.
INTERNSHIPS & VOLUNTEERING
We offer a variety of internships for both foreign and domestic students.
Volunteers, both local and abroad, are very much appreciated. At the moment, our greatest need is for translation, marketing, and administration help.
So. That's who we are and what we do. We have lots of big ambitions, and with your support as an audience member, donor, or volunteer, we are going to make them all happen!
