This is theatre-making at its most intense! The YTG show-creation process focuses on ensemble-based show building. In the Summer Youth Ensemble, you’ll learn new skills and leverage existing talents to create an original, multi-media production. Every ensemble member will do a little bit of everything, supported by a creative team of experienced professionals.

The team you’ll work with includes YTG instructors, designers, and crew.

To maintain the safety of students, instructors, and production crew, we will be following these safety protocols:

  • The program will be limited to 12 students only.
  • All participants and staff will wear masks in the rehearsal rooms at all times, except on meal breaks, until the actual performances.
    • Masks will only be off for eating, participants will be physically distanced, and masks will go back on if speaking is necessary.
    • Only ensemble members on-stage during the performance will remove masks, and only when it is necessary. Masks will be worn backstage by all performers and crew.
  • We will only be working in the large studio (16 x 9 x 5 meter space) and ventilation will be running at all times.
  • Parents and guardians and extraneous personnel will be asked to remain outside the studio during class time.
  • The final performances will be streamed live online and available for subsequent viewing (ensemble members will receive a video file). Only the ensemble and necessary crew will be permitted in the theatre during the performance.

These rules may be modified, relaxed, or tightened, depending on the course of the pandemic and the vaccine rollout.

  • The shows will be professionally photographed and recorded.
  • Placement in the class is confirmed upon receipt of full payment of fees
  • Every ensemble member will appear in the final performance, and great efforts will be made to make certain that each ensemble member is showcased, but roles are as cast at the sole discretion of the director
  • Every ensemble member, instructor, artistic team member, and crew member will sign the YTG anti-harassment and bullying document

Once payment has been made, no refunds will be given, except in the following circumstances:

  • YTG cancels workshops* and does not provide make-up workshops to replace them. You will be refunded based on the hourly value of the cancelled workshops.
  • YTG cancels the final performances*, and does not book alternative dates, in which case 25,000 yen will be refunded to each student still attending the program.

* Except in the case of an unanticipated event beyond YTG’s control that would necessarily prevent the running of the class, for example, major earthquake, volcanic eruption, major public transit strike, or similar event.
