Andrew Woolner is the current Artistic Director of the Yokohama Theatre Group.
A few of his performance credits with YTG include the MC (I Speak in the Halls of Power) Heathcliff (Wuthering Heights), a Dr. Jekyll (Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde showcase), Daddy and various roles (RYOKOU | 旅行), Hitch and various (The Outliers), Edward Gross (Touch Me Not), Performer 1 (By the Hour), himself (The Other Show), Andrew/Naritsune (Kikai-ga-Shima), and the astronaut 39 (39, and 39 Redux).
He’s worked as the writer or lead writer on all of YTG’s original productions. His directing/producing credits with the company include I Speak in the Halls of Power, Hamlet, the 2026 Winter Cabaret featuring ANIME-ZING, Anxiety, Jekyll and Hyde project, The Upside, The Peony Lantern, Wuthering Heights, Antigone (assistant director), RYOKOU | 旅行 , She-Wolf, Tartuffe, Richard III (R3), and Ring ‘Round the Moon.
Before moving permanently to Yokohama in 2003, Andrew served as the Artistic Director of Squeeze-Box Theatre in Toronto, Canada. In his last two years with the company, he oversaw the production of 10 plays as well as directing, writing, and performing in many of them. Educated in Theatre at Young People’s Theatre school and York University in Toronto, Andrew has done his duty as an Actor, Director, Playwright, Designer, Carpenter, Lighting Technician, Dramaturg, Dresser, Front of House, Stage Manager, and Janitor; sometimes all at the same time on the same show.
Since joining YTG as Artistic Director in late 2006, Andrew has also made several changes to the group, including the addition of an internship program, starting a more active teaching program, touring of shows to Tokyo and overseas, and the incorporation of YTG as an registered non-profit in Japan.
Since 2011, he has concentrated on the creation of original works with other ensemble members as well as teaching theatre workshops for YTG and drama classes at Daito Bunka University.
Andrew believes in creating works that are relevant to the ever-changing world we live in and in provoking reactions and discussions from audiences: he believes in the power of Theatre to change worlds.

2003年に横浜へ永住する前は、カナダ・トロントのSqueeze-Box Theatreでアーティスティック・ディレクターを務めていました。同劇団での最後の2年間には、10本の作品制作を統括するとともに、その多くで演出、脚本、出演も担当しました。トロントのYoung People’s Theatre Schoolとヨーク大学で演劇を学んだアンドリューは、これまで俳優、演出家、劇作家、デザイナー、大工、照明技術者、ドラマトゥルク、衣装係、フロント・オブ・ハウス、舞台監督、清掃係まで、さまざまな仕事を経験してきました。時には、ひとつの作品でそのすべてを同時に担当することもありました。
2006年末にYTGのアーティスティック・ディレクターに就任して以来、インターンシップ制度の導入、より積極的な教育プログラムの開始、東京および海外への公演ツアー、日本でのNPO法人化など、YTGにさまざまな変化をもたらしてきました。
2011年以降は、他のアンサンブルメンバーとともにオリジナル作品の創作に力を注ぐ一方、YTGでの演劇ワークショップや大東文化大学での演劇クラスの指導も行っています。
アンドリューは、変化し続ける世界に関わる作品を創り、観客の反応や議論を引き出すことを信条としています。演劇には世界を変える力があると信じています。
